New Vice President Finances Appointed

In October 2022, the Executive Board of the University appointed Daniel Hug as UZH’s new Vice President Finances. His appointment was confirmed by the Board of the University.

“I’m looking forward to a new chapter in my career and to developing the university’s financial management,” says Daniel Hug.

Daniel Hug has been responsible for planning and managing UZH’s finances since joining the Executive Board of the University on 1 February 2023. The 49-year-old Zurich native succeeds Stefan Schnyder, who led the Directorate for Finances and Human Resources for 16 years. The Human Resources Department is now overseen by the Vice President Faculty Affairs and Scientific Information.

Daniel Hug has extensive management experience in the area of finance and controlling. He previously served as Head of Corporate Controlling for the specialty chemical company Clariant, where he oversaw the company’s long-term financial planning. Prior to this role, he held other management positions for the multinational company, including overseeing global controlling in the industrial and consumer care department. He also served as General Manager and CFO at Clariant Thailand and gained finance experience in the UK and in Hong Kong. After gaining his Master’s degree in finance, accounting and controlling from the University of St. Gallen, he joined the corporate controlling department of Clariant in 2002.
