Two thirds of this increase is due to the rising number of students at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics. Decreasing Energy Demand Despite Rising Number of Students

In 2024, UZH’s energy demand was primarily covered through electricity and district heating. In a long-term comparison, a decoupling between UZH’s number of students and its energy demand becomes apparent: since 1980, the number of students has increased significantly more than the energy demand. Between 2020 and 2024, the energy demand decreased despite the rising number of students. Further relevant figures regarding UZH’s sustainability can be found in the interactive diagrams.
