UZH in Numbers

Student Statistics

Record Number of Students

In 2025, the total number of students (excluding students in Master of Advanced Studies programs) rose to 28,785 (+309), thereby surpassing the preceding highest value of the previous year. Two thirds of this increase is due to the rising number of students at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics. Proportion of Women Among Professors Is on the Increase

Overall, staff numbers once again increased in 2025, reaching a total of 10,323 (+23), at a full-time equivalent (FTE) of 7882 (+55). 243 out of 745 professors were women, which equals 33 percent, thereby achieving the highest proportion in the history of UZH. 34 out of the 61 professorial appointments in 2025 were women. Sustainability Statistics

Decreasing Energy Demand Despite Rising Number of Students

In 2024, UZH’s energy demand was primarily covered through electricity and district heating. In a long-term comparison, a decoupling between UZH’s number of students and its energy demand becomes apparent: since 1980, the number of students has increased significantly more than the energy demand. Financial Situation

The total revenue of UZH rose slightly to CHF 1,732 million. UZH closed the year with a positive result and recorded profits of CHF 1.4 million.
